are both nine years old and they’re
trying to sort their way through the
fi rst obstacle on the course round
the Blau de Jalpiaventura, which
is the moving barrels. This activity
park in the Arenys de Munt forest
is currently being visited by lots of
children’s summer camps. There
are different routes which range
from ‘green’ level up to ‘black’ and
where you can fi nd monkey bridges,
pirate nets, climbing and lots of other

activities that participants have to get
over in order to pass from one tree to
another in true Indiana Jones style.
You can even fi nd four-year-olds here
and what is surprising is that nobody
gets left behind.
“The smaller they are the less
conscious they are of the danger
and it’s really from about twelve
that they have more common-sense
and they’re even a bit frightened at
times”, says monitor Miquel Antequera.
The feeling of insecurity is only
psychological, however, as everyone
is permanently attached by harnesses
to a lifeline. In fact, the most exciting
thing is that everyone is in control of
their own safety via personal safety
equipment that the monitors teach
them how to manage.
However, children aren’t the only
ones who can enjoy playing the monkey
in this park as the ‘red’ and ‘black’
courses are more complicated and
they’re really intended for teenagers
and adults. Here, the intrepid climber
can try out snowboarding, move along
zip wires at twelve metres high as
well as swing about like Tarzan on
ropes. Jalpiaventura is at one with
its surroundings and has a policy
of respecting the forest. In fact, a
forestry report has guaranteed the
preservation of the trees which are
mainly pines and cork trees. At the
moment a new adventure course,
which will add to the park’s attraction,
is under construction.
