todos los policías, <strong>la</strong> oportunidad juega un papel hasta en el <strong>de</strong>lito <strong>de</strong> asesinato<br />
más cuidadosamente p<strong>la</strong>nificado y profundamente motivado. No<br />
existe ninguna c<strong>la</strong>se <strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong>lito don<strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong> oportunidad no cump<strong>la</strong> su papel.<br />

Suicidio y oportunidad<br />
Al igual que muchos <strong>de</strong>litos graves, el suicidio es consi<strong>de</strong>rado normalmente un<br />
acto profundamente motivado, cometido únicamente por personas muy infelices<br />
o perturbadas. Sin embargo, un fuerte y sorpren<strong>de</strong>nte componente <strong>de</strong> oportunidad<br />
aparece en <strong>la</strong>s ten<strong>de</strong>ncias <strong>de</strong> suicidio por gas durante los años sesenta<br />
y setenta.<br />
Como pue<strong>de</strong> verse en <strong>la</strong> tab<strong>la</strong>, en 1958 casi <strong>la</strong> mitad <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong>s 5.298 personas que<br />
se suicidaron en Ing<strong>la</strong>terra y Gales lo hicieron con gas doméstico, el cual contenía<br />
altos niveles <strong>de</strong> monóxido <strong>de</strong> carbono y era muy letal. Normalmente, <strong>la</strong><br />
mayoría <strong>de</strong> los suicidas introducían sus cabezas en el horno <strong>de</strong> gas o se ten dían<br />
junto a una estufa <strong>de</strong> gas tras haber taponado los resquicios <strong>de</strong> puertas y ventanas.<br />
La muerte se producía con bastante rapi<strong>de</strong>z, a veces en menos <strong>de</strong> veinte<br />
minutos.<br />
