PRINCIPLES
Formulations are intended for off-the-scalp
highlighting only
Hair should be less than 75% gray for optimal results
When highlighting over tinted hair or hair with
build-up from hard water, add 1 extra scoop of
Bl a z i n g X-tra Light Booster Concentrate to the
formula in order to achieve the proper level of lift; if
the hair has both issues only 1 scoop is necessary
Medium lift formulas will achieve 1 – 4 levels of
lift, providing a more subtle, blended highlight
Maximum lift formulas will achieve 5 – 7 levels of
lift creating a highlight more brilliant in tone
Formulas with 0 scoops will give 1 – 1½ levels of
lift, concentrating on color deposit
TEST STRAND PROCEDURE
A test strand is recommended when applying Bla z i n g highlights to hair that has
been chemically relaxed or straightened or when non-professional haircolor
has been used. The following is a mini batch formula that provides enough
product for 2 – 3 test strands.
Mixing – Measure Bla z i n g X-tra Light Booster Concentrate, Bl a z i n g Color Gel and
Bla z i n g Oil Lightener. Pour into mixing bowl and dissolve. Add developer.
Application – Apply to test strand and time for 5 – 20 minutes, testing
frequently for desired results. If breakage occurs, do not procede with
highlighting application.
NOTE: When highlighting over tinted hair or hair with build-up from hard water,
add ¼ cap-ful Bla z i n g X-tra Light Booster Concentrate to the formula in order to
achieve the proper level of lift.
REMOvINg OXIDIzED hAIRCOLOR
Scruples Co l o r Delete Haircolor Remover is recommended for removing oxidized
haircolor. When haircolor processes too dark and the desired color is ½ – 4 levels
lighter than the color achieved, it is necessary to remove the oxidized haircolor.
If Co l o r De l e t e Haircolor Remover is not available, oxidized haircolor can
also be removed with Bla z i n g Highlighting & Color System by following the
directions below.
Mixing – Mix 2 scoops of Bla z i n g X-tra Light Booster Concentrate with 2 oz
Bla z i n g Oil Lightener until concentrate is blended and dissolved. Add 2 oz Pu r e
oxi 5, 10 or 20 Volume Clear Developer and mix thoroughly to produce a smooth,
gel-like consistency.
Higher volumes of Pu re ox i Clear Developer increase the speed of lifting action and
the level of lift attained.
Each scoop of Bl a z i n g X-tra Light Booster
Concentrate is equivalent to 1½ – 2 levels of lift
(1½ levels of lift when mixed with Pu re oxi 10
Volume Developer and 2 levels of lift when mixed
with Pu re ox i 20 Volume Developer)
When more lift is desired, increase amount of
Bl a z i n g X-tra Light Booster Concentrate
When less lift is desired, decrease amount of
Bl a z i n g X-tra Light Booster Concentrate
For maximum tonal deposit, double the dye
load by increasing the Bla z i n g Highlighting
Color Gel from ½ oz to 1 oz; do not increase
other components
If a thicker consistency is desired, add ¼ oz –
½ oz Scruples Co l o r WH i P Haircolor Thickener
The highlighting mixture can be doubled or
reduced by half to accommodate the length of
the client’s hair; double or half all components in
highlighting formula to produce exact results
The colorist may combine Scruples haircolor
systems with Blazing Highlights to achieve
multidimensional effects in the hair
MINI BATCH FORMULA
Number of scoops (cap-fuls*)
1 scoop = ¼ cap-ful
2 scoops = ½ cap-ful
3 scoops = ¾ cap-ful
4 scoops = 1 cap-ful
Liquids
1 cap-ful Color Gel
testing strands often. When color has lifted to desired level after approximately
5 – 30 minutes, massage into scalp area if lift is required. The scalp area will lift
quickly and will process in 1 – 3 minutes.
NOTE: If too much warmth develops when color has lifted, simply tone down
warmth using a Scruples Hi g H Definition Color Gel, Co l o r ar t Conditioning Color Gloss
or tr u e in t e g r i t y Opalescent Colour Creme formula.
