championship game. In 2002 and 2003 Nebraska also went <strong>to</strong> bowl games with Leipold as a<br />
member of the staff. He returned <strong>to</strong> UNO in 2004 as the associate head coach and offensive<br />
coordina<strong>to</strong>r, where he contributed <strong>to</strong> three consecutive 8-3 seasons and three straight<br />
conference championships.<br />
Leipold and his wife Kelly have a daughter, Lindsey, and a son, Landon.<br />
Defensive Coordina<strong>to</strong>r Brian Borland<br />
Brian Borland assumed the position as defensive coordina<strong>to</strong>r on the UW-<br />
<strong>Whitewater</strong> football staff in 2002. Borland had coached the defensive backs<br />
in his previous ten years at UW-W.<br />
Borland was the defensive coordina<strong>to</strong>r for three years at Baker University<br />
(KS) (1991-93), and at the University of Minnesota-Morris (1989-90). He<br />
also was the head women's softball coach at Baker University and head<br />
track and field coach at the University of Minnesota-Morris. Prior <strong>to</strong><br />
coaching at these two universities, Borland was a graduate assistant<br />
football coach at the University of Florida and at the University of <strong>Wisconsin</strong>. He also coached<br />
defensive backs at Arizona Western College.<br />
Borland played his college football at Morningside College (1981-84) where he was a four-year<br />
letterwinner, a team captain, and an all-conference selection. Borland also was a two-year<br />
letterwinner in track at Morningside (1981-82).<br />
Borland earned <strong>Wisconsin</strong> Collegiate Assistant Coach of the Year honors from the <strong>Wisconsin</strong><br />
Football Coaches Association for the 2004 football season. Borland also coached track and<br />
field, in addition <strong>to</strong> his football duties, at UW-<strong>Whitewater</strong> from 1994 <strong>to</strong> 2002. In 2000, Borland<br />
led the <strong>Whitewater</strong> women's track and field team <strong>to</strong> a fourth place finish at the NCAA Division III<br />
Outdoor Track and Field Championship. He received NCAA DIII women’s track and field<br />
national coach of the year honors for his successful season.<br />
In addition <strong>to</strong> his football coaching duties at UW-W, Borland teaches in the HPRC Department.<br />
Brian has a wife, Gayle, and two sons, Evan and Jaren.<br />
Offensive Coordina<strong>to</strong>r Steve Dinkel<br />
2011 is Steve Dinkel’s second season as offensive coordina<strong>to</strong>r. In previous<br />
years he coached the offensive line for eight seasons, as well as stints as<br />
run game coordina<strong>to</strong>r and special teams. Dinkel is a graduate of UW-River<br />
Falls, where, he played on four conference championship teams. Prior <strong>to</strong><br />
working with UW-<strong>Whitewater</strong>, Dinkel served as the head football coach at<br />
Jefferson High School (WI) for ten years. During his tenure with the Eagles,<br />
he guided Jefferson <strong>to</strong> a 60-36 record. In the process, the Eagles won a<br />
state championship and made three state playoff appearances. While<br />
coaching at <strong>Whitewater</strong>, Dinkel has helped develop seventeen all-conference players and seven<br />
All-Americans on the offensive line. Dinkel earned his master’s degree from the University of<br />
<strong>Wisconsin</strong>-Madison and teaches in HPRC. Dinkel resides in Jefferson with his wife, Cathi, and<br />
their two daughters Anna, and Jenna.<br />
