Purple Streak<br />
The <strong>Warhawks</strong> currently have the longest winning streak in college football, in any division. UW-<br />
<strong>Whitewater</strong> has won 37 consecutive games. The <strong>Warhawks</strong> have also built streaks of 26 in a row on the<br />
road, 24 in a row at Perkins Stadium, 19 consecutive non-conference games, 21 WIAC games, and 10 in<br />
a row in the NCAA III playoffs. UW-W’s 37 game streak is tied for the sixth longest ever in NCAA<br />
football. Mount Union holds the first and second spot with strings of 55 (2000-2003) and 54 (1996-99)<br />
games. The University of Oklahoma is next at 40 (1953-57), followed by Division II Grand Valley State<br />
with 40 (2005-2007). The University of Washing<strong>to</strong>n is in fifth place with 39 (1908-1914). There is a<br />
logjam in sixth, with UW-W joined by Mount Union (2005-2007), Augustana (1983-85), and Yale twice<br />
(1890-93 and 1897-89).<br />
Homecoming … Not in My House<br />
UW-<strong>Whitewater</strong> is 63-22-1 in Homecoming games. Going back eleven years, the Pointers have been<br />
UW-W’s Homecoming opponent four times, the most recent in 2008 when the Pointers upset the<br />
defending NCAA III champion 17-16 in <strong>Whitewater</strong>. <strong>Whitewater</strong>’s best record versus an opponent is 10-0<br />
vs. Platteville, followed by 11-2 vs. Oshkosh. Just one opponent holds the upper hand at Homecoming,<br />
Saint Ambrose College, 1-2-1. UW-SP has been the opponent in more UW-W Homecoming games than<br />
any other opponent, 14 times.<br />
In the Polls<br />
UW-W is ranked first in both Division III polls, the American Football Coaches Association and<br />
D3football.com. UW-Stevens Point is not ranked.<br />
The Coaches<br />
<strong>Whitewater</strong>’s Lance Leipold is in his fifth year as head coach of the <strong>Warhawks</strong> and has compiled a record<br />
of 64-3, including 26-1 in the WIAC. In his first head coaching opportunity, Leipold has earned national<br />
Division III coach of the year honors three out of the four years and was named WIAC Coach of the Year<br />
the last two. UW-SP’s John Miech is the dean of WIAC football coaches. In his twenty-fourth year as the<br />
Pointers’ head coach, Miech has compiled a 156-81-2 record. Like Leipold, Miech played for the team he<br />
is coaching. Miech trails only Roger Harring, Forrest Perkins and Bob Berezowitz in a list of WIAC<br />
football wins.<br />
UW-Stevens Point Notes<br />
The Pointers came from ten points down, scoring on Mitch Beau’s quarterback sneak with 15 seconds left<br />
in the game <strong>to</strong> win at Eau Claire, 28-24, last Saturday. The UW-SP defense sacked Blugold QB Austin<br />
Neu four times. Beau went 11-19 for 252 yards with three <strong>to</strong>uchdowns. Lineman Justin Scary with<br />
eleven tackles, two and a half for a loss, and one and a half sacks.<br />
