very little improvement in five-year survival
from this cancer, or other head and
neck cancers, over the last four decades
[18]. Early-stage head and neck cancers
have a good cure rate, but over 60% of
patients present with advanced disease.
although initially cured. Patients may also
face serious reductions in quality of life
after definitive surgical therapy; despite
improving rehabilitation and reconstructive
surgery, residual cosmetic and functional
debilities may be significant.
The overall relative survival of laryngeal
lower in developing countries. It is highly
dependent on the sub-site of the disease
which itself is dependent on the etiological
factors involved. In countries with elevated
alcohol consumption the prognosis
is poorer because there are more tumours
of the upper part of the larynx, which have
a lower survival.
