The plant will be connected to the existing 220 kV and 500 kV transmission<br />

systems in the North Caucasus Region. New transmission lines will be<br />

constructed for this purpose and the existing transmission lines running through<br />

the site will be rerouted.<br />

This design was accomplished by carrying out a detailed study of the region's<br />

existing transmission system to determine the upgrades that will be required to<br />

bring 900 MW of new capacity on line. These studies included detailed load flow<br />

and fault analysis, dynamic studies and system stability studies. These studies<br />

assumed that the existing ties between the North Caucasus region and the<br />

Ukraine will remain available and that the first stage of the interregna1 tie between<br />

the Center region of the Russian Integrated System and the North Caucasus<br />

comprising three 500 kV lines from Balakovskaya Nuclear Plant to Rostovskaya<br />

Nuclear Plant will also become available.<br />

The load flow studies indicated that to deliver power to the regional consumers at<br />

220 kV, three new substations will need to be constructed in Kurgannaya,<br />

Cheremushki, and Zilposelok. These additions and changes include:<br />

Zelenchukskaya via the 500 kV switchyard at the <strong>Krasnodar</strong> <strong>GRES</strong>,<br />

Adding a new single-circuit 220 kV line from the <strong>Krasnodar</strong> <strong>GRES</strong> to<br />

Cheremoshki substation,<br />
