Water pollution at the water intake<br />

The proposed water intake shall be located on the right bank of the Malaya Laba<br />

river 100 m from the rivers edge as a lined series 4 to 5 km long, upstream from<br />

the southern part of Andryuki which is approximately 33 km from the <strong>Krasnodar</strong><br />

<strong>GRES</strong> site.<br />

Boundaries of sanitary protection zone (SPZ) belts were delineated by<br />

Kubangiprovodkhoz Institute in accordance with Building Code 2.04.02-84.<br />

The second belt of the SPZ shall include river bordering strips 750 m wide from<br />

the river edge of the summer-fall valley along the entire length of the river from<br />

the water intake to the river source.<br />

The third belt of the SPZ is as long as the second belt, the distance between side<br />

boundaries of the belt shall be 3 km, according to paragraph 10.1 1 of the BC<br />

2.04.02-84.<br />

Study of the sanitary protection zone (SPZ, 300 m wide) of the Laba river in the<br />

vicinity of the Andryuki well field resulted in the identification of the following<br />

sources of pollution (see Appendix 24):<br />

The SPZ covers territory where the following populated areas are located:<br />

Perevalka, Burnoye, Nikitino, Kutan, Kirovskij, and the Caucasus biosphere<br />

reserve. Potential sources of pollution are:<br />

1. Perevalka village is situated on the left slope of the M. Laba valley; there is<br />

no municipal sewage system.<br />

2. Forest range, mechanical shops, souvenir shop, Perevalka. Potential<br />

pollution during floods.<br />

3. Burnoye village - one-storied buildings; no sewage system. It is situated on<br />

the left slope of the M. Laba river valley.<br />

4. Nikitino village - one-storied buildings; no sewage system. Potential<br />

pollution by sanitary waste.<br />

5. Psebaj village - one-storied buildings; no sewage system.<br />

The following stock breeding farms are situated within the SPZ: stock breeding<br />

farms of the collective farm named after Kujbyshev, MTF # 6 1 to 1.8 km south<br />
