Other safety equipment installed during the year included
flood lights to light dangerous crossings and a hand
operating signal which operates much like a regular street
traffic sIgnal. During this year the Public Service Commission
also approved the installatlon of 13 flashmg light railroad
signals.
This year the Commission issued General Order No.
47, w hie h requires all railroads to maintain the right-ofway
at public grade crossings so that it will be reasonably
clear of vegetation, undergrowth or other debris for a distance
of 250 feet each way from such c r 0 S S in g where the
vegetation 0 r undergrowth would materialLY 0 b s cut" e approaching
trains from the view of travelers on- the highway.
The follOwing tabulation shows statistics relative to
the activities of the Railroad Safety Divlsion of the Engineering
Department during the past year.
