9 The MUTE project<br />

In the MUTE project a cooperation <strong>of</strong> 20 departments <strong>of</strong> the TU München <strong>an</strong>d partners<br />

from industry w<strong>an</strong>t to show the feasibility <strong>of</strong> a usable <strong>an</strong>d competitive electric car through<br />

innovative <strong>an</strong>d new technology. There<strong>for</strong>e, a MUTE prototype car is developed at the<br />

moment.<br />

9.1 The electric car MUTE<br />

A preliminary rendering <strong>of</strong> the design is shown in Figure 9.1. The car c<strong>an</strong> tr<strong>an</strong>sport<br />

two persons <strong>an</strong>d two pieces <strong>of</strong> luggage. This limitation makes a design possible that is<br />

small <strong>an</strong>d lightweight enough to be registered under the L7E license (subcompact car).<br />

This leads to reduced tax paying <strong>for</strong> the customer <strong>an</strong>d lower technical requirements. In
