From the above discussi<strong>on</strong> it will be seen that the demand forecast<br />
attempted by different methods gives different results. In the year 2024-25, the<br />
demand forecast c<strong>on</strong>sidering CAGR <strong>of</strong> 12.2% comes to about 3.1 milli<strong>on</strong><br />
t<strong>on</strong>nes and applying GDP growth <strong>of</strong> 9% as forecasted in 12 th plan the demand<br />
comes to about 2.0 milli<strong>on</strong> t<strong>on</strong>nes.<br />
2) Demand Projecti<strong>on</strong> Based <strong>on</strong> Sector wise Growth<br />
With the liberalised policies <strong>of</strong> the Government, the <strong>Indian</strong> copper sector<br />
has registered a quantum rise in producti<strong>on</strong>. The present installed capacity <strong>of</strong><br />
refined copper has reached at around ten lakh t<strong>on</strong>nes per year. India's positi<strong>on</strong><br />
has shifted from being a net importer <strong>of</strong> copper to a net exporter. The main<br />
demand for refined copper is in the electrical and electr<strong>on</strong>ic sectors,<br />
c<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong> sector, c<strong>on</strong>sumer durables and transport sector. The per capita<br />
c<strong>on</strong>sumpti<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> copper in the country is low at about 0.5 kg compared to the<br />
usage <strong>of</strong> 10 kg copper in developed countries, 4.6 kgs in China and 2.4 kgs in<br />
the entire world. It has been forecasted that there will be an increase in<br />
c<strong>on</strong>sumpti<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> copper and in 2025, the per capita c<strong>on</strong>sumpti<strong>on</strong> in India will be<br />
