the standard <strong>of</strong> God lifted up in Acts 2:4. . . .<br />

Peter’s answer [in Acts 2:38] forever settles the<br />

question as to what the standard <strong>of</strong> God is. . . .<br />

We are identified with Him by faith in His death on<br />

the Cross, and in His burial, by our immersion in<br />

water; and in His glorious resurrection life by the<br />

blessed Holy Spirit, Who is supposed to come upon us<br />

when we come up out <strong>of</strong> the water. And, thank God,<br />

we have lived to see the blessed day that He has<br />

restored the Scriptural order <strong>of</strong> things, and the Spirit<br />

is falling on thousands and they are speaking in<br />

tongues as at the beginning.<br />

A prominent Fundamentalist preacher, A. C. Dixon,<br />

once met with Durham and asked what his distinctive<br />

doctrine was. Durham told him it was speaking in tongues<br />

as the initial evidence <strong>of</strong> the Holy Ghost. Dixon exclaimed<br />

that by this doctrine he indicted all Christendom, whereupon<br />

Durham solemnly replied, “Sir, they deserve to be<br />

indicted.” 56<br />

Durham died before the Oneness movement began,<br />

but Ewart believed he would have received the Jesus<br />

Name message had he lived. He was a trinitarian, but<br />

according to one report he performed at least one baptism<br />

in Jesus’ name. 57 He placed great emphasis on the<br />

name, person, and work <strong>of</strong> Jesus Christ: 58<br />

• Christ is all and in all. As we yield to the Holy Ghost,<br />

we will see more in Him and less in everything else.<br />

If there is no other name under Heaven, whereby<br />

men can be saved, we ought to constantly proclaim
