A <strong>History</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Christian</strong> <strong>Doctrine</strong><br />

received the Holy Spirit. He began his worldwide network<br />

with the purchase <strong>of</strong> a defunct television station in 1959.<br />

The flagship program was “The 700 Club.” In 1988,<br />

Robertson ran for the Republican nomination for U.S.<br />

president, but he never became a serious contender.<br />

• Youth with a Mission (YWAM), a nondenominational,<br />

youth-oriented missionary movement. It was<br />

founded by Loren Cunningham, an AG minister, in 1960-<br />

61, but he left the AG in 1964 after he and AG <strong>of</strong>ficials<br />

could not agree on policy for YWAM.<br />

• Oral Roberts University (1965). (See chapter 9.)<br />

• Logos International Fellowship (1966), the first<br />

Charismatic publishing house, founded by Dan Malachuk.<br />

It became quite well known, distributing millions <strong>of</strong> books<br />

on Charismatic themes, including the prosperity message.<br />

It suffered financial difficulties, however, and finally<br />

went bankrupt. Part <strong>of</strong> its operation was taken over by<br />

Bridge Publishing. Other Charismatic publishers have<br />

since arisen, including Harvest House, Bethany House,<br />

and Creation House.<br />

• Women’s Aglow Fellowship (1967), a nondenominational<br />

women’s fellowship similar to the Full Gospel<br />

Businessmen’s Fellowship International.<br />

• Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) (1973),<br />

founded by Paul Crouch (born 1934) and his wife, Jan.<br />

Crouch was a minister with the AG.<br />

• Charisma magazine (1975), probably the most<br />

influential publication in the Charismatic movement<br />

today. It was founded by Stephen Strang (born 1951),<br />

who had his origin in the AG. Strang later acquired<br />

<strong>Christian</strong> Life magazine (which he merged with<br />

Charisma) and Creation House. He also launched other<br />
