A <strong>History</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Christian</strong> <strong>Doctrine</strong><br />

in such statement is not inspired nor contended for,<br />

but the truth set forth in such phraseology is held to<br />

be essential to a full Gospel ministry. No claim is<br />

made that it contains all truth in the Bible, only that it<br />

covers our present needs as to these fundamental<br />

matters.<br />

The statement consisted <strong>of</strong> seventeen points, with the<br />

following headings:<br />

(1) The Scriptures Inspired. (2) The One True God.<br />

(3) Man, His Fall and Redemption. (4) The Salvation<br />

<strong>of</strong> Man. (5) The Promise <strong>of</strong> the Father. (6) The Full<br />

Consummation <strong>of</strong> the Baptism in the Holy Ghost. (7)<br />

Entire Sanctification, the Goal for All Believers. (8)<br />

The Church a Living Organism. (9) The Ministry and<br />

Evangelism. (10) The Lord’s Supper. (11) Baptism in<br />

Water. (12) Divine Healing. (13) The Essentials as to<br />

the Godhead. (14) The Blessed Hope. (15) The<br />

Imminent Coming and Millennial Reign <strong>of</strong> Jesus. (16)<br />

The Lake <strong>of</strong> Fire. (17) The New Heavens and New<br />

Earth.<br />

Section 2 stated that God has “revealed Himself as<br />

embodying the principles <strong>of</strong> relationship and association,<br />

i.e., as Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.” Section 13, which<br />

was about the same length as all the other sections combined,<br />

expressly taught the doctrine <strong>of</strong> the trinity and<br />

refuted the doctrine <strong>of</strong> Oneness. It said that God is “a<br />

Trinity” or “one Being <strong>of</strong> three Persons.” The distinction<br />

<strong>of</strong> persons “is an eternal fact, but as to its mode it is<br />

inscrutable and incomprehensible, because unexplained.<br />
