YLT Meeting Minutes
September 11, 2011

Members Present: Abby Bird, Nick Brinkmoeller, Mitchell Millius, Jackie Piper, Jacob
Roth, Colin Stroehle, Cassie Wobbema, Kristina O’Hea, Marlene, Woller, Theresa
Deutsch. Fr. Dwayne also joined us for the meeting.
Abby led us in prayer, and Colin served as meeting facilitator. Theresa took minutes for
Morgan who was unable to attend the meeting.

Meeting In-Services: Each member was given a copy of the book Rediscovering
Catholicism by Matthew Kelly, along with a book study guide. Members are asked to
read the Prologue and Introduction (Pgs. 11-23) and read over/answer the “Session One”
section in the journal. We will discuss the Prologue and Introduction during the first 15
min. of our Oct. 9 th YLT meeting. Members who were not at the Sept. meeting, please
contact Theresa to get a copy of the book.
Report from Heart of Dubuque Ice Cream Social: We had approximately 600 people
attend this year’s Ice Cream Social held at Comiskey Park on Sunday, August 28 th . Nine
teens, along with adults and teens from other churches, led “Minute to Win It” games for
kids.
Dubuque City-Wide YLT and Parish Council: Colin, Abby, and Jackie will represent
our YLT on the Dubuque City-wide YLT, and Colin and Jackie will continue to serve as
youth members of our Parish Council. The first City-wide YLT meeting is Sunday night,
September 25 th at 7:00pm in the St. Anthony Youth Room. The first Parish Council
meeting is Thursday, September 22 nd at 6:30pm in the Multipurpose Room.
Youth-led Mass Update: Upcoming youth-led Mass dates include Sunday, October 30 th
at 8:00am and Sunday, December 4 th at 11:00am. We will plan the Oct. 30 th Mass at our
Oct. YLT meeting.

High School Youth Group Update: We will have High School Youth Group on the
first and third Mondays of the month from 6:30-8:30pm. Topics and activities that were
suggested include Game Night, Amazing Saints Scavenger Hunt, bowling, and
potluck/bonfire. The first HSYG event is “Movie & Munchies” on Mon., Sept. 19 th from
6:30-8:30pm in the new Parish Multipurpose Room (Basement of Sacred Heart Rectory).
We will watch the movie “Soul Surfer” and talk about God’s plans for our lives. We
talked about inviting Krystyna and Stephen Startari (Catholic Worker Retreat House) to
come to an upcoming YLT meeting to talk about an environmental stewardship program
opportunity.
Youth Group Prime Rib Dinner: We are hosting our 5 th Annual YG Prime Rib Dinner
on Friday, October 28 th at Holy Trinity Terrence Hall at 7:00pm (6:30pm Social/Wine
Tasting). The meal will be catered by Poor Man’s Catering. Jackie and Colin will be
Master and Mistress of Ceremonies. Colin will talk about his CLI experience, Emily and
Carrie will talk about NCYC 2011, Nick and Lindsey will share their service trip
experience, and Morgan and Mitch will talk about Youth Leadership Team. We plan to
decorate for the dinner on Friday morning the day of the dinner, Fri., Oct. 28 th from 9am-
1pm at Holy Trinity Terence Hall. We will sell tickets at the HG and HT Festivals, as
well as several weekends after Masses. Our next PR Dinner planning meeting is on
Sunday, October 16 th at 1:00pm in the Holy Ghost Forrester Room (following the CEW
Breakfast).
Holy Ghost Festival Kidville and PR Dinner Ticket Selling Schedule: YLT members
signed up to help in Kidville or to help sell Prime Rib dinner tickets at the Holy Ghost
Festival on Sun., Sept. 18 th .
Summer Service Trip: Theresa reported that no decision has been made on a location
or dates for our 2012 Summer Service Trip. Anyone with location/program ideas, please
contact Theresa.
Middle School Youth Group: We talked about possible plans to have a Middle School
Youth Leadership Team, similar to our H.S. YLT, but to meet less frequently. The
purpose of a Middle School YLT is to build community among our parish youth and to
give youth voice in the parish. We have had middle school youth ministry events offered
once a month in past years.
Parish Mission: Teens and adults from our parish are providing babysitting for kids
ages 5 and under during the Parish Mission. Our Parish Mission is three evenings – Sun.,
Sept. 25 th at HT, Mon., Sept. 26 th at HG, and Tues., Sept. 27 th at SH – each evening from
6:30-7:45pm. (We would those helping with babysitting to come at 6:15pm). Kids ages 5
and up will participate in Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Jackie volunteered to help
babysit on one of the evenings. If others are available to help babysit, please contact
Theresa.

YLT/High School Youth Group Teambuilding Day: We would like to have a High
School Youth Group Bonfire/Cookout this Fall. Marlene contacted the Muntz family
about hosting this event at their house, and she will be in contact about a date/time.
Our next YLT meeting is Sunday, October 9 th from 9:15-10:45am in our Parish
Multipurpose Room.
