1460 PARCEL POST GUIDE<br />

The limit <strong>of</strong> weight for parcels addressed to Canada and Cuba is four pounds<br />

six ounces. '<br />

The limit Of weight for parcels addressed to <strong>the</strong> Republic <strong>of</strong> Panama and<br />

certain <strong>of</strong>fices in Mexico is eleven pounds.<br />

SEEDS, BULBS, ETC.<br />

Seeds, cuttings, bulbs, roots, scions and plants are parcel post matter, <strong>the</strong> rate<br />

<strong>of</strong> postage on which is one cent for each two ounces or fraction <strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong>, regardless<br />

<strong>of</strong> distance, on packages weighing eight ounces or less, and on packages, over<br />

eight ounces <strong>the</strong> parcel post zone rates apply.<br />

WHERE MAILABLE.<br />

Parcels must be mailed at post <strong>of</strong>fice or branch post <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

PREPARATION FOR MAILING.<br />

Parcels must be prepared for mailing in such manner that <strong>the</strong> contents can be<br />

easily examined; except that matter inclosed in boxes to which lids are nailed or<br />

screwed may be accepted for mailing, if with reasonable effort <strong>the</strong> lids can be<br />

removed.<br />

Each parcel must bear <strong>the</strong> name and address <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sender.<br />

The sender may write or print on <strong>the</strong> package or on a tag or label, marks,<br />

letters, numbers, names, or o<strong>the</strong>r brief description <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> package, and printed<br />

matter relating to an article <strong>of</strong> merchandise which it accompanies is regarded as.<br />

descriptive <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> article and is <strong>the</strong>refore a permissible inclosure.<br />

Printing on an article <strong>of</strong> merchandise, or on its wrapper, does not affect its<br />

classification.<br />

Order forms, address tags, report forms, letter and bill heads, insurance and<br />

legal forms, cards and o<strong>the</strong>r similar supplies, regardless <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> amount <strong>of</strong> printing<br />

on <strong>the</strong>m, blank check books, receipt books and o<strong>the</strong>r books <strong>of</strong> forms, partially in<br />

print, are governed by <strong>the</strong> classification set forth in <strong>the</strong> Postal Laws and Regulations.<br />

Invoice or sales slips bearing on <strong>the</strong>ir face sides written data relating to <strong>the</strong><br />

articles contained in <strong>the</strong> package with which <strong>the</strong>y are inclosed, are regarded as<br />

permissible additions to mail with parcel post packages. \<br />

Bills are not permissible.<br />

LIMIT OF WEIGHT AND SIZE.<br />

, The limit <strong>of</strong> weight is fifty pounds for local, first and second zones, and twenty<br />

pounds outside <strong>of</strong> second zone. The limit <strong>of</strong> size is seventy-two inches in length<br />

and girth combined.<br />

PERISHABLE ARTICLES.<br />

Parcels containing perishable articles must be marked "Perishable."<br />

Articles likely to spoil within <strong>the</strong> time reasonably required for transportation<br />

and delivery must hot be accepted for mailing.<br />

Butter, lard, and perishable articles such as fish, fresh meats, dressed fowls,<br />

vegetables, fruits, berries and articles <strong>of</strong> similar nature which decay quickly,<br />

when so packed or wrapped as to prevent damage to o<strong>the</strong>r mail matter, will be<br />

accepted for local delivery, ei<strong>the</strong>r at <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> mailing or on any rural route*<br />

starting <strong>the</strong>refrom. When inclosed in an inner cover and a strong outer cover<br />

<strong>of</strong> wood, metal, heavy corrugated pasteboard, or o<strong>the</strong>r suitable material, and<br />

wrapped so that nothing can escape from <strong>the</strong> package, <strong>the</strong>y will be accepted for<br />

mailing to all <strong>of</strong>fices within <strong>the</strong> first zone.<br />

Butter, lard, or any admissible greasy or oily substance, when intended for
