As a result of monitoring and other studies, concentrations of metals, hydrocarbons,
pesticides, and other compounds have been measured in U.S. coastal areas. Some ofthese data
have been incorporated in a data file oftoxics and pollutants at the National Oceanographic Data
Center. A summary ofthe levels ofnearly 60 compounds from this file has been done recently.
The number of samples and the maximum and minimum levels found in water, sediment, and
organisms are summarized for all coastal areas. These data are an available resource for all
investigators.
