SIBT pathway to Macquarie University
SIBT provides an alternative pathway to Macquarie University and Macquarie City Campus for
Australian and international students who may not qualify for direct entry and seek a supportive study
environment . SIBT offers a range of courses to suit your academic needs .
Certificate IV in University
Foundation Studies
(NTIS 51879)
The Certificate IV is a foundation course
that will prepare you for success at
diploma level . The Certificate IV consists
of 8 units, which upon completion, will
guarantee you entry into a SIBT diploma
program . The Certificate IV is suitable for
students who do not meet the academic
or English requirements to advance
directly to diploma .
Mixed English Option
This option allows you to combine your
English language studies with your
Certificate IV in University Foundation
Studies course . It is suitable for students
with an IELTS score of 5 .0 (or equivalent) .
Diploma
SIBT diplomas consist of 8 units that are
the equivalent to the first year of a
Macquarie University bachelor degree .
Upon successful completion of a diploma
you will advance directly to the second
year of a relevant Macquarie University
bachelor degree .
Commencement Dates
Provisional Entry Program
If you have an IELTS of 5 .5 (plus the
required academic score), it is possible
to begin your diploma studies at SIBT on
a Provisional Entry Program . In the first
semester at SIBT you will take 2
academic diploma units in addition to
studying a required Culture and Learning
unit . This unit focuses on academic
literacy and study skills and upon
successful completion you will move
to full diploma status . You will complete
the remaining 6 academic units over
2 semesters .
Advanced Diploma
SIBT at Macquarie University and Macquarie City Campus
Students are awarded an advanced
diploma upon successful completion of
12 units . This includes the SIBT diploma
(8 units) plus an additional 4 units .
These additional units are equivalent to
the first semester of second year at
Macquarie University . You will be offered
a place in the advanced diploma if you
commence your studies in October . This
is because Macquarie University does
not offer classes between October and
February and the advanced diploma is
designed to allow students to continue
their studies at SIBT during this period .
Students who enjoy the SIBT learning
environment can also choose to continue
studying the advanced diploma .
Associate Degree
The Associate Degree in Business is a
two-year, higher education program that
consists of 16 units and is the equivalent
to two years of a Macquarie University
degree . Upon completion you will
advance to the third year of a Bachelor of
Business Administration . The associate
degree is suitable for students who wish
to continue enjoying the benefits of
studying their degree program in a more
supportive learning environment .
