Laker Football Tradition From Grand Valley State's first all-american in 1974 to the 2002 season when 11 Lakers garnered various all-american honors, GVSU has produced some of the best players in the country. Since 2001, the Lakers have had at least five players earn allamerican plaudits in each season. Jeff Fox (1998), Eric Lynch (1989-90), and Curt Anes finished among the top eight finalists for the Harlon Hill Award. The Harlon Hill is given to the best player in NCAA Division II based on voting by the sports information directors around the country.
