Palmetto Girls State: Junior Counselor (2008), Senior Counselor (2009–2011)
Over the last four years, I have been hand-chosen to annually return to Palmetto Girls State, a camp for 700 of
South Carolina’s top high school junior students, as either a Junior or Senior Counselor. Serving on a staff with
women that have tremendous leadership credentials has shaped my own personal work ethic and leadership
qualities, providing myself with a much deeper knowledge in local and state government and a stronger level
of independence as a woman. Some of my weekly tasks included:
• Assisting in planning and implementing the week of Palmetto Girls State.
• Providing guidance and educating thirty outstanding high school students about state and local government.
• Leading evening assemblies and other group meetings in front of as many as 700 and as few as 35 people.
