information with respect to <strong>the</strong> <strong>impact</strong> <strong>of</strong> HIV/AIDS on <strong>the</strong> education sector in <strong>the</strong> areas <strong>of</strong>
policy, advocacy and leadership in Tanzania.
To cite a very long list <strong>of</strong> acknowledgements may seem hackneyed. However, after
spending several months carrying out research and compiling <strong>the</strong> findings, <strong>the</strong> authors <strong>of</strong> this
report have become truly indebted to numerous people, and public and private institutions.
The report authors and <strong>the</strong> research team are sincerely and deeply indebted to <strong>the</strong>
International Institute for Educational Planning (UNESCO/IIEP) for funding <strong>the</strong> project,
identifying and assigning <strong>the</strong> core research team and fielding periodic expert missions to
support <strong>the</strong> various workshops and phases <strong>of</strong> research design, implementation and evaluation.
The authors wish to pay a special tribute to <strong>the</strong> education sector as a whole and
particularly to <strong>the</strong> leadership <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ministry <strong>of</strong> Education and Culture (MoEC) for allowing
research to be undertaken in <strong>the</strong> Ministry, and for <strong>the</strong> moral and physical support in terms <strong>of</strong>
manpower and co-operation from MoEC headquarters, regional and district <strong>of</strong>fices, primary
and secondary schools and from affiliated institutions.

informant or respondent, for sharing information and <strong>the</strong>ir perspectives on <strong>the</strong> issues
