During the project will be realized a German-Russian handbook which will be devoted to current issues of
museum practice and analyse the role of museums as social and communicative institution, focussing
Belarus. Museums have always been points of access to knowledge about cultures and centres of formal
and non-formal education; they contribute to mutual understanding and social cohesion, and as are essential
for sustainable human development. They help us to understand where our societies come from, and
apprehend our common future. Having in mind this background, the edition will focus on the problem of
interaction of museums and society and their role as centres of knowledge and education
This project will be seen as a landmark to strengthen the capacity of Belarusian museums in responding to
the challenges of the XXI century.
• Handbook in German and Russian. The handbook is part of a project of the Institute of Goethe Minsk,
which will offer more than a half of the budget. Therefore and to be able to spread the handbook in
Belarus and the surrounding region, the languages of publication will be German and Russian.
• The additional CD will provide the printed material of the handbook to use as samples and forms for own
projects on any PC.
• Edition: 500 copies, 200 pages, brochure with text, photos, graphics etc., editor: ICOM Belarus, Institute
of Goethe in Minsk, Tradicia History Service
