The Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center is dedicated to the enrichment of Jewish life; fostering the spiritual,
emotional, and physical development of its members through all of life’s stages and circumstances; and strengthening
the connection with the People and Culture of Israel, along with other Jewish communities throughout the world. The
MAR-JCC represents a model of acceptance, understanding, and diversity. People look at the MAR-JCC as a Center of
excellence that epitomizes how shared Jewish values support a vibrant and evolving constituency.
As we enter a new (secular) year, we continue to “kvell” over the growth, development, and accomplishments of our Michael-Ann
Russell JCC. Let us share with you what our JCC is doing to meet the needs of our members, as well as the overall community-at-large.
As those of you who use the MAR-JCC on a regular basis know, we have maximized the space that our 17 acre Sanford L. Campus has
afforded us due to the extensive array of offerings that fall under our program umbrella, combined with an ongoing increase in our
program registration, and utilization by community groups and agencies.
TO BEGIN A NEW PHASE OF OUR CAMPUS AND FACILITIES EXPANSION,
… we have purchased several properties adjacent to the MAR-JCC
...we are actively engaged in a capital campaign for the construction of an Arts and Education Center that will house a theater, dance
studios, art and music rooms, multi-purpose room, and gymnastics studio
…we have submitted plans (and waiting approval) to reconfigure our parking lot in order to increase the number of parking spaces
and improve traffic flow.
PROGRAMMATICALLY,
…we are now better serving our young collegiates and post-college age young adults with the creation of the Hillel - Young Adult
Department(YAD), where we have become a visible presence on the local college campus and create social, athletic, and Jewish
cultural programming for 18-25 year olds
…we have strengthened our Aquatics Department with the addition of a new swimming program, Swim Gym, resulting in increased
class offerings and expanded programming
…we have implemented a health and wellness program for our pre-school and prek classes, CATCH, that promotes an awareness of
healthy eating and fitness as part of every day life
…we continue to embrace our connection to the Land and People of Israel by welcoming a new Community Shaliach (Israel cultural
emissary) plus opening our homes to 2 Shinshinim (young shlichim) from our Partnership City of Yerucham, while also promoting
Israel travel by different MAR-JCC groups and departments, (e.g., this winter’s special needs Israel experience for youth with special
needs and this spring’s Flavors of Israel Food and Wine experience)
TO IMPROVE UPON OUR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND COMMUNICATIONS,
…we continue to advance in the use of social media so that our MAR-JCC message is received by a broader segment of our community
…on-line registration will soon be introduced so that we may facilitate the enrollment process for classes, programs, and activities
…there is continued movement towards managing email broadcasts so that you will not be oversaturated with hearing about the great
things that we are doing while selecting only those areas of interest that you wish to hear about
AND, TO FURTHER YOUR INVOLVEMENT,
…we are strengthening our committee structure through the addition of volunteers serving on administrative and program committees
…we are creating greater opportunities in receiving your feedback so that you can let us know how we are doing and how we may better serve you
…we are asking you to contact us if interested in volunteering your time, sharing with us your expertise and knowledge to help us make
the MAR-JCC the CENTER of your life, that of your family and friends, and that of our North Miami-Dade and surrounding community
I think you can now see why we think AMAZING THINGS ARE HAPPENING at the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center
and why we think the MAR-JCC IS THE PLACE TO BE!
Extending best wishes to you and your family for a wonderful 2013 and looking forward to seeing you here for classes, programs,
activities, and simply just to socialize.
Sincerely,
Ariel Bentata Gary J. Bomzer, MSW
Whether you want to provide support immediately or design a plan that benefits MAR-JCC in the future, there are
many options to choose from, that can be integrated into your financial or estate plan. Planned giving vehicles
such as gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts can be structured to provide income to you and/or your heirs
today, while at the same time benefitting the MAR-JCC. However, if a gift in your will is your preference, our staff
will work closely with you and/or your representative to ensure all your wishes are met.
CASH GIFTS
Cash gifts can be made by credit card, on the phone or in person, or by check made payable to the Michael-
Ann Russell Jewish Community Center. Checks may be delivered in person or mailed to Gary Bomzer, President
and CEO, MAR-JCC, 18900 NE 25th Avenue, North Miami Beach, Florida 33180.
GIFTS OF APPRECIATED SECURITIES
Marketable appreciated securities, held for more than one year, can be delivered in person or sent through an
electronic transfer authorization. Be sure to notify us of your decision in advance. Securities will be sold immediately
and the funds allocated based upon your giving preference and instructions.
GIFTS-IN-KIND
Gifts-in-kind are an important way of giving to the MAR-JCC. This option includes donations of property (other
than cash and marketable securities) such as real estate, works of art, equipment, furnishings, software, and
licensing. A gift-in kind requires an official transfer of ownership and requires the donor to determine the fair
market value of the gift for tax reporting purposes.
CULTURE • ARTS • FITNESS • GYMNASTICS CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
When you give to the Capital Campaign you are investing in the growth and in the future of the MAR-JCC. The
success of this $10 million dollar campaign will result in a brand new Cultural Arts & Education Building right on the
Sanford L. Ziff Campus, featuring a 200-seat theater, a “Rikudim” Dance Center, both a Music Center and Art Centers
along with new rooms for group fitness. This phase of growth will also generate the space for an improved and
expanded fitness center, a gymnastics studio, additional Early Childhood classrooms, and much-needed office
space. Naming opportunities are available and an incredible way to leave a family legacy. However, there are
unique ways for every donor, at every giving level, to get involved.
PRESIDENTS’ FUND FOR THE FUTURE
This endowment was created to ensure the growth and prosperity of the JCC. The annual interest earned on this
account is used for the upkeep and enhancement of the MAR-JCC as determined by the Board of Directors.
MITZVAH FUND
Bar/Bat Mitzvah children perform a Mitzvah by giving a portion of their gifts to the Mitzvah Fund and by inspiring their
parents and grandparents to match their gift. The Mitzvah Fund supports our Special Needs programs and the
Scholarship Fund.
HABIMAH SOCIETY FUND
Knowing that a theatre program cannot be sustained by ticket sales alone, the Habimah Society provides an
invaluable source of support to the J’s Cultural Arts Theatre’s year-round program and through financial contributions.
Gifts of $1,000 or more receive choice seating for all J-CAT productions and all gifts are recognized in each
production’s “playbill.” Visit us at www.jcctheatre.com to learn how you can become part of the Habimah Society.
NETZACH TRIBUTE FUNDS
Tribute Funds are a wonderful way to commemorate an event, or honor the life or the memory of a loved one. When
establishing a Tribute Fund, you are able to determine both the name of the fund as well as its ultimate purpose and
will forever provide support to the areas of the MAR-JCC that are most important to you. A minimum contribution of
$25,000 is required to endow a fund. As an alternative, you can donate to one of the established Tribute Funds listed
below. Tribute Funds are held in an endowment with the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. An endowed fund is
invested in perpetuity and only the annual interest earnings are utilized. The funds are combined with those of other
donors for investment purposes and the investments are overseen by the GMJF Investment committee and are
Bamachol Dance Academy offers Israeli Dance, Ballet, Jazz, Latin Dance, Hip-Hop and skills development, friendship, mutual
respect, and Jewish culture, under the supervision of highly qualified and talented staff. The Academy is performance oriented -
allowing each child to “learn dance, while dancing.” Being part of a choreography gives each child notions of space orientation,
the sense of belonging, and the responsibility of having a place “in the dance.”
Israeli Dance - Rikudim grades PK-3 - Adult
Our Israeli Dance (Rikudim) program is well known in our South Florida community. With the goal to both learn and maintain our
Jewish culture and tradition our children learn rikudim (circle and line dances) and also choreographies throughout the year.
Groups from grade 5 through college travel for special performances and dance festivals in Florida, nationally, and abroad.
With Passover approaching, Rabbi Maurice Harris, brings the holiday's main character to
life as he looks beyond familiar popular portrayals of Moses by interweaving traditional
religious interpretations, academic Bible scholarship, psychological and sociological
analysis, feminist readings, and more. Combining a deep respect for the Biblical text with
a willingness to question received tradition, Harris reveals a complex Moses whose life
story gives us important tools for better understanding issues like religious fundamentalism,
intermarriage, identity confusion, and civil disobedience, among others.
Made possible by the MAR-JCC’s Steven J. Kravitz Adult Jewish Education Fund and by Sponsoring Organizations
