(6.) If this church has gone into Babylon He is gone there too, and all are lost<br />

— “Lo I am with you alway even unto the end of the world. A men.” Bengel<br />

says on this: “A continual presence, and one most actually present.” “This<br />

promise also belongs to the whole church.” Inasmuch as Methodism,<br />

Presbyterianism, Campbellism, etc., are “but of yesterday,” this promise<br />

cannot apply to them. On this Stier says:<br />

“He is present with his mighty defense and aid against the gates of hell, which<br />

would oppose and hinder His church in the execution of His commands.” f34<br />

So, G.W. Clark, Scott, Matthew Henry, Barnes, Doddridge, Olshausen, and<br />

Adam Clark, et. mul. al.<br />

V. “For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the<br />

church: and he is the Savior of the body … Christ also loved the church, and<br />

gave Himself for it … that He might present it to Himself, a glorious church,<br />

not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that it should be holy and<br />

without blemish.” — Ephesians 5:23, 29.<br />

(1.) This is taken from the relation of husband and wife.<br />

(2.) The husband that does not use his utmost power to save his wife is an<br />

unfaithful husband.<br />

(3.) Only his lack of power prevents him from saving his wife.<br />

(4.) For Christ to not use His utmost power to save His church would be for<br />

Him to be unfaithful to her.<br />

(5.) Only by His lack of power can the church apostatize.<br />

(6.) But, “all power in heaven and in earth” belongs to Him; therefore the<br />

church is insured forever against apostasy. He “gave Himself for it” and He is<br />

its “Savior.”<br />

(7.) An apostate church is not a “glorious” church, has spots, wrinkles, serious<br />

blemishes.<br />

(8.) But, inasmuch as Christ’s church has “no such thing,” His church shall<br />

never apostatize. On this Adam Clark says: “Christ exercises His authority<br />

over the church so as to save and protect it.” f35 Verses 26 and 27, Bengel,<br />

Matthew Henry and Adam Clark say allude to “the different ordinances which<br />

He has appointed;” hence they agree that the passages speak of the <strong>Church</strong><br />

organization.<br />

VI. Having been “built upon the foundation of the Apostles and prophets,<br />

Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; in whom all the building fitly
