Romanization is frequently, but not always, a transcription into roman letters of Thai orthography whose pronunciation rules in Thai are unfamiliar in English. For example, ‘Kamol’ is actually pronounced ‘Gamon’ in Thai, ‘Poshyananda’ is pronounced as ‘Posyanorn’ et cetera. That is, final ‘l’ in transcription is usually pronounced ‘n’, and final consonants are often unpronounced, only semi-voiced, or otherwise varied. Thai romanizations thus vary considerably and usually transliterate Thai orthography without directly transposing Thai sounds. For convenience, romanization here largely follows Haas, Mary, Thai-English Students Dictionary, Stanford, Stanford University Press, 1964.
