committee member after his
acceptance speech at the
AGM on August 6.
The long-serving committeeman

president’s appreciation of
the honour was palpable.

was elected vice-president in

It was a good time to be at
the helm, as David will
confi rm. Everything was on the
up, literally and fi guratively, as
the redevelopment project took
shape and the new facilities
came on stream.
There are a few foundation
stones around the place to
record David’s stewardship
during a period of great and
welcome change, but none
could convey his broad-brush
contribution to club life
generally.
With wife Diana by his side,
he was a remarkably consistent
attendee at celebratory
functions, annual dinners,

would test the endurance of a
marathon runner.
