PE, School Sport <strong>Club</strong> Links (PESSCL) Strategy<br />

The PE School Sport and <strong>Club</strong><br />

Link Strategy has been created by<br />

The Department for Education and<br />

Skills and Department for Culture<br />

Media and Sport to achieve the<br />

Government PSA target; raise<br />

standards in schools, improve the<br />

health of the nation and ensure the<br />

UK competes successfully on the<br />

international stage.<br />

The PESSCL Strategy includes<br />

8 programmes;<br />

� <strong>Sports</strong> colleges<br />

� School Sport Partnerships<br />

� Professional Development<br />

� Step into Sport<br />

� Gifted & talented<br />

� QcA PeSS Investigation<br />

� School/club links<br />

� Swimming.<br />

The first two strands within the national<br />

Pe, School Sport and club Links<br />

Strategy have created from September<br />

2006 a national school sports<br />

infrastructure by building a network<br />

of <strong>Sports</strong> colleges and School Sport<br />

Partnerships.<br />

the vision of <strong>Sports</strong> colleges is to raise<br />

standards of achievement in physical<br />

education and sport for all their students<br />

across the ability range leading to whole<br />

school improvement.<br />

the <strong>Fylde</strong> coast boasts 3 Sport<br />

colleges: Palatine, collegiate and<br />

Fleetwood. these Schools are focal<br />

points for promoting excellence in<br />

physical education and community sport,<br />

extending links between families of<br />

schools, sports bodies and communities,<br />

sharing resources, developing and<br />

spreading good practice and helping to<br />

provide a structure through which young<br />

people can progress to careers in sport<br />

and physical education.<br />

the School Sport Partnership<br />

Programme is designed to increase<br />

the percentage of all school children in<br />

england who spend a minimum of 2<br />

hours per week on high quality Pe and<br />

School Sport within and beyond the<br />

curriculum to 85% by 2008. By 2010<br />

the ambition is to provide 5 hour offer,<br />

2 hours within the curriculum and an<br />

additional 2/3 hours in an out of hours<br />

context a week for 100% of children. the<br />

Blackpool, Wyre and <strong>Fylde</strong> School Sport<br />

Partnerships bring together families of<br />

schools, clubs, local authorities, national<br />

governing bodies of sport and other<br />

community organisations under one<br />

umbrella, to provide opportunities in<br />

sporting opportunities within and beyond<br />

the curriculum.<br />
