3. Input 1: “Implementing Multicultural Learning and Knowledge Communities in Multinational Organizations” by Sven Fröhlich-Archangelo Sven Fröhlich-Archangelo, Institut für Interkulturelle Kommunikation, Universität München One of the most important characteristics of international organisations is, that their resources are globally distributed and that their members have differing cultural backgrounds. This situation is a specific challenge for these organisations with respect to implementing successful collaboration. First, we will exemplary present two aspects of collaboration in multinational organisations. One aspect is the collaboration in worldwide distributed teams or networks, the other the expatriation and the exchange of members within the global organisation. We will portray the prevalent problems in these areas and show how new media and e-learning may contribute to their solution. Second, we are going to talk about possible pitfalls of e-learning. Besides technical problems and lack of acceptance we are especially focussing on cultural aspects, which have to be taken in account when developing international learning environments. Third, we present a concept of several modules for a net-based multicultural learning and knowledge community with respect to the above mentioned difficulties. Furthermore, we show, how individual modules of the concept can be adapted to the specific situation of the EMS. Please see also Power Point Presentation in the Annex 7
