WAR DEPARTMENT, Document No. 95. Office of the Chief of Staff. T.D W 629340 J/ 2.
PREFACE TO THE 1917 EDITION. The following pages contain the Dictionary as originally published by the War Department, with a supplement containing the more important recent military and technical terms. It had been my intention, whenever time should serve, to incorporate these terms, as well as thousands of others, in the main work, so as to make a new book of it; but such a book would have called for at least two years' steady labor. When, therefore, The Adjutant General asked me if I could furnish any additions to the original text, the only possible course was to collect them into a supplement. WEST POINT, N. Y., July 26, 1917.
