Chapter 9. <strong>SAP</strong> <strong>BI</strong> Accelerator<br />

9<br />

This chapter provides an overview and introduction to the <strong>SAP</strong> <strong>BI</strong> Accelerator<br />

(<strong>SAP</strong> <strong>BI</strong>A), which is available from <strong>BI</strong> version 7.0 and later.<br />

<strong>SAP</strong> <strong>BI</strong>A was introduced by <strong>SAP</strong> as High-Per<strong>for</strong>mance Analytics and is based on<br />

<strong>SAP</strong>s TREX search technology adapted <strong>for</strong> the <strong>BI</strong> needs.<br />

The <strong>SAP</strong> <strong>BI</strong> Accelerator is a separate <strong>SAP</strong> instance. It is an appliance and runs<br />

on Blade servers with Linux SUSE on an Intel® Xeon <strong>using</strong> 64-bit architecture.<br />

This requires only the <strong>SAP</strong> <strong>BI</strong>A License, SUSE Linux and General Parallel File<br />

System (GPFS). There is no database installation.<br />
