Analysis of the processing on the personal computer can be done by switching<br />

on the Windows resource monitor while the query is running. (This needs to be<br />

done locally at the personal computer.) If the CPU and the memory of the<br />

personal computer is overused, then the long network time may be caused by<br />

slow personal computers.<br />

8.3.4 Database per<strong>for</strong>mance<br />

If the main component of your query response time is database time, and you<br />

have already analyzed the need <strong>for</strong> aggregates and found that they are either<br />

already present or will not help. The next stage of your analysis is to look at the<br />

SQL and the per<strong>for</strong>mance of the database.<br />

The starting point we can use <strong>for</strong> analyzing database per<strong>for</strong>mance is shown in<br />

the flow diagram in Figure 8-20.<br />
