load, which is usually a delta (small) load to update an existing, very large table,<br />

it may be no longer effective because loading and rebuilding indexes may take<br />

too long.<br />

You also need a large sort workspace. In addition, runstats <strong>for</strong> each load may<br />

take too long and consume too much CPU resource. Periodic runstats are still<br />

necessary, but should not be too frequent.<br />

8.3 Analyzing query per<strong>for</strong>mance<br />

In this section we discuss an approach <strong>for</strong> analyzing query per<strong>for</strong>mance,<br />

following the road map laid out in Figure 8-1 on page 137.<br />

Although there are some relevant changes from <strong>SAP</strong> <strong>BI</strong> 3.x to 7.x in respect to<br />

where query statistics data are stored, most of the items discussed and shown in<br />

this chapter are also applicable in <strong>SAP</strong> <strong>BI</strong> 7.x. If you are running <strong>SAP</strong> <strong>BI</strong> 7.x there<br />

is the a tool available called <strong>SAP</strong> Query Analyzer that we discuss in 8.5, “<strong>SAP</strong><br />

Query Analysis Tool” on page 178.<br />
