MISSION STATEMENT
The Institute for Theology and Peace is a research institution of the Catholic Church established by the Catholic Military Chaplaincy.
The emphasis of research and documentation is on the political and social debate on questions of peace from a theological-ethical
point of view.
Founding year 2002.
The Institute has the following tasks:
BACKGROUND AND ACTIVITIES
1. to acquire, document and make accessible theological literature and literature researching topics of peace relevant to theology:
� Library and documentation
� Online bibliography Theology and Peace
2. to cooperate with appropriate national and international research and documentation institutions
3. to carry out and promote theological research and research topics of peace relevant to theology
Research areas:
The main emphasis of the research of the Institute is the development of theologically based peace ethics. The Institute works
towards this goal from two directions:
I. Discussion of current problem areas of peace and security policies according to peace ethics
Current individual projects:
� International arbitration
� Controlling arms transfers as a problem of political ethics
� On the structure of arguments regarding approaches to (anti-)terrorism ethics and politics
� Ethical boundaries of the legitimate use of force in the new wars
� Torture, the constitutional state and the dignity of man. On the absoluteness of a ban on torture.
