MISSION STATEMENT
The Swiss Bishop Conference was founded to create an assembly of all Swiss Bishops that has regular meetings, is juristically structured and has a
leading function of the Swiss Catholic church.

BACKGROUND AND ACTIVITIES
The Swiss Bishop Conference has 14 members and 13 commissions. These commissions treat various questions, such as the role of
women in the Catholic Church, ecumenism, theology, etc. Different Working Groups have been created ad hoc for a limited scope of
time, such as the group on bioethics or the group on Islam. They play a role in the dialogue and collaboration with other religious
communities in Switzerland.
Relevant working groups include :
� Interreligious working community in Switzerland, www.iras-cotis.ch
� Working group “Islam”. This working group aims at promoting the Interreligious dialogue in Switzerland and at supporting
pastors and individuals in resolving important questions on the relations between the Christian and the Muslim world in the
helvetic context.
