Here’s How It Works:
Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes.
To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column
and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box.
You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the
numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name,
the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!
SUNNYVIEW SHADY OAKS
Welcome to new Sunnyview
resident, Maxine Kail. We are glad
to know you.
The Sunnyview staff and spouses
gathered Friday night, Nov. 16 th,
at the Pizza Ranch for a “pre-
Thanksgiving” meal together. From
the sound of all the joking that went
on, it would be safe to say that “a
good time was had by all.”
How was your Thanksgiving? Did
you think of things for which you
could be thankful, and did you enjoy
one of those Thanksgiving blessings:
left-overs? The weather can be a big
factor in holiday travel. Sometimes
the best choice is to stay home. The
Sunnyview staff regularly expects
many guests and residents here for a
sumptuous Thanksgiving meal.
We feel for those who have lost
loved ones. That would include the
tragic loss of four lives in the recent
Lake City house fire. It’s hard to
know what to say, other than we are
sorry.
The photos from the hurricane
devastation on the east coast are
sobering. However, we might
wonder which photos are real. For
instance, we saw online photos of
sharks swimming in the flooded New
York subways. If you are curious
about this, you might try looking
it up on Google, which is how we
found this site: www.theatlantic.
Gina Hanlon and her children,
Raeann, Olivia and Dillon, were
supper guests at Vernon and Shirley
Hamilton’s on the 19 th to celebrate
Dillon’s ninth birthday which was
that day.
Dwight and Caryl Fackler of
Ogden, Diana May of Newton and
her brother-in-law, David May
of Wisconsin, went with Barbara
Winkelman to the Thanksgiving
meal served at the United Methodist
Church in Churdan on Sunday the
18th. They continued their visiting
at Barbara’s in the afternoon.
Ruben and Evelyn DeWald
attended the Bingo party in Lohrville
the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Some winners received a turkey and
Evelyn was one of lucky players.
Ann Gemberling, Lohrville, and
Hello from Sunny Knoll! Are
you still full from Thanksgiving? I
think we are here! We had a great
dinner! Thanks to all of our staff
who worked and made it special
for our residents. We are going to
be busy getting everything ready
for Christmas. Where has the year
gone? We had a fun week with Betty
hosting bingo on Monday. Tuesday
Jerry joined me for tunes and treats.
Marilyn joined us for devotions on
Wednesday. I was so grateful that
she sang my favorite song “The
Someone shared the following
story. Thanksgiving was
approaching and the family had
received a card with a painting of
a Pilgrim family on their way to
church. Grandma showed the card to
her small grandchildren, observing:
“The Pilgrim children liked to go
to church with their mothers and
fathers.” “Oh yeah?” her young
grandson replied. “So why is their
dad carrying that rifle?”
Many of us are thankful that
Sunnyview is all on one level.
No stair steps here, except to
the basement. And the coffee is
always on. Perhaps a piece of warm
pumpkin pie would go well with that
coffee. There is a lot of nutrition in a
pumpkin. Roasted pumpkin seeds are
good, too, and don’t forget pumpkin
bread. Say, what do you use to fix a
broken pumpkin? A pumpkin patch.
By the time this is in the paper,
Sunnyview may be in a state of
transformation. Sunnyview has the
tradition of decking the halls right
after Thanksgiving. Dee Harman,
staff supervisor, does a great job
organizing the decorations with all
of her helpers. Ready or not, here
comes Christmas! Seventy-one years
ago, Pearl Harbor in Hawaii was
attacked, bringing the United States
into World War II. Let’s remember
our brave men and women in the
armed forces.
Liz Guess were in Ankeny Saturday
Nov. 17th for a vendors fair to
benefit the March of Dimes. Liz’s
nephew and his wife are parents of
two-year old triplet girls who arrived
prematurely and received help from
the March of Dimes. It was held on
the campus of DMACC.
Vernon and Shirley Hamilton
visited Don and Kay Munson of
Storm Lake on the 13 th . Others
there were Lanice Goetsch of West
Des Moines and her sister Lynnette
Dultma from Michigan.
Barbara Winkelman and other
retirees from UAW Local #1540
ate together at the Pizza Ranch in
Jefferson on the 16 th .
for Thanksgiving. Thank you Paul!
Thursday was turkey day and wow
did we eat a lot. Friday we slowed
the week down with mens coffee
and ice cream social. Now if only it
was still nice out! I suppose I should
not be complaining. I hope everyone
has a great week. Stop out and see
