Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru in Heavy Engineering Corporation, Ranchi
"Tomorrow's India will be what we make it by today's labour. I have no doubt that India will progress industrially and otherwise that
she advances in science and technology; that her people's standards will rise, that education will spread and that health conditions
will be better, and that art and culture will enrich people's lives. We have started on this pilgrimage with strong purpose and good
heart, and we shall reach the end of the journey, however long that might be".
Mrs. Indira Gandhi, the then PM, on the occasion of the inauguration of
the 6000 tonne Press in FFP, HECL, Ranchi on 02.10.72
"I am happy to be invited here for this significant event. Those who work here in HEC are engaged in building not only machines but
through them, they are building our nation, our India. We all are, thus, engaged in a gigantic task....
During the days of struggle for freedom, we were not promised a reward for a comfortable life. On the contrary our leasers asked us to
put up with difficulties and hardships, to be ready to go to jail and even to sacrifice life for the cause of the country..... I appeal to you
for your co-operation and for giving your best. Not that you will live a life of ease and comfort by doing so. Gone are the days of a life
of luxury for you or for me. If we want to see this ancient land march forward and influence world thought, then we have to work
and strive hard towards this end."
The Prime Minister in Forge Shop/FFP
Indira Gandhi being greeted at Foundry Forge Plant
Dispatch ceremony for (60+60) T x12.1M span semi portal crane at
HMBP on 4 th Nov. 2011
The effort of HEC has brought laurels for its new endeavor and proved its worth by way of designing, developing and manufacturing
(60+60) T x12.1M span semi portal crane first time in the company.
This crane carries some Special features like parallel double trolley system, each trolley consisting of four parallel lifting hooks. These
four hooks are used to lift the scrap with the help of scrap charging bucket .Hoisting and lowering are done simultaneously engaging
four hooks at a time.
The two rear hooks are used for tilting and charging the scrap in to the converter by placing the charging edge of the scrap box at the
mouth of converter by hoisting and lowering of both the rear hooks.
One trolley is used for hoisting and charging the scrap into the converter while other trolley is used to fill the scrap in to the scrap
charging box simultaneously so that the charging into the converter will remain continuous which will increase the productivity of
the shop.
Weight of this crane is approximately 265T. It can handle 60+60T i.e 120 T at a time. The hoisting mechanism of each trolley consists
of two simple Gear Boxes with double drive and four nos. of rope drums with four hooks connected to them.
The trolley is also equipped with 2 nos. of weighing system each having 4 nos. Strain Gauge type weigh beams of capacity 15 T,
mounted below the upper pulley block on the top of the trolley to measure the exact weight of the scrap along with scrap box handling
traverse.
This crane consists of four parallel girders which
are connected with the two 20M parallel long
end girders. Long travel mechanism consists of
four drive system out of which two are mounted
on the rail level (+20.75 M) of the gantry while
other two are mounted at the ground level of the
gantry (+9.5 M). Both are connected with End
girders and End column assembly. There are
four column supports and balancer body which
are connected with the column at the bottom.
Top of columns are connected with end girder.
This crane is equipped with VFD control with
AFE converters having regenerative feature
which in turn provide saving of energy by
feeding back excess energy during regeneration
period. The energy regenerated during lowering
and braking of travel Mechanism will be fed
back to the mains. This type of control will save
energy consumption and also facilitate creep speed operation for easy maneuvering of the scrap charging box. The Operator’s Cabin
of the crane is equipped with AC unit. The crane operation is possible from ground using Radio Remote Control. The Electric Panels
are placed inside an air conditioned Electric Panel Room.
It is worth mentioning that this type of crane has been designed and manufactured for the first time by M/s HEC Ltd. Development
of this crane was taken as a challenge by RPD/HMBP and they have successfully completed the same under the able guidance of Dr.
Madan Jha. Efforts of all the members of RPD including Sri C. M. Singh, Sri R. B. Bhagat, Sri C. Prasad, Sri D. K. Sinha, Sri R. J. Prasad, Sri
D. Ojha, Sri Satish & Production Team under Leadership of Sri P.K. Ray SDGM merit special mention for Developing and Manufacture
of this crane in stipulated delivery period.
Sri G K Pillai CMD HEC & Sri Kushal Saha, Director (Prod) along with other Sr. Officers participated in the dispatch ceremony organized
in 043-44 shop. This equipment is being dispatched to ISP (formerly IISCO), Burnpur and the approx costs of the equipment is Rs 06
crore. Sri Pillai appreciated the effort taken by the Team and thanked one and all who were involved in this project.
