representative for LifeServe Blood
Center, announced that several blood
donors had reached milestones at
recent blood drives in Lake City and
Rockwell City.
Caputo commented that at both
locations, donations exceeded
expectations.
That is something that we love
to see, but especially during the
summer months,” Caputo said.
The next blood drive for Lake City
is Monday, Aug. 20 from 12:30 to
p.m. at the Community Center.
The next community blood drive in
Rockwell City will be on Wednesday,
Aug. 29 from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. at St.
Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Cookout in the Park
Sandwiches are now being served
at the Lake City Community
Farmers’ Market. The “Cookout in
the Park” opens at 4:30 pm every
Tuesday and features a different
sandwich each week. For those
who want more than a sandwich, a
full meal is available that includes a
yummy dessert. There’s table space
under the trees to sit and enjoy your
meal, or you can take it home with
you. Sandwich and meal prices vary
each week depending on the menu.
Be sure to take a look around the
Farmers’ Market while you’re there
and check out the fresh vegetables,
farm eggs and home-baked goods.

Calhoun County Museum News
The Calhoun County Museum
Board met in the museum, June 19
at 9:00 am. There were 7 members
present and one guest.
Iola Zimbeck called the meeting
to order in absence of the President.
The minutes and treasurers report
were given, and approved.
Old business, Dorothy Talbot has
asked to have a talent show in the
museum, so they decided on a date,
it will be September 23 from 2:00
to 4:00 in the afternoon. Dorothy
is lining up all the talent, so if you
have a talent and would like to share
it with the public, please get in touch
with her.
They discussed the Festival lunch
which will be June 24 from 11 to 1.
They talked about what everyone
will bring, Hope they have a good
attendance.
The board got a very nice bunch of
thank you letters from the 6 th grade
students that attended their Pioneer
days. They all enjoyed it a lot.
On Tuesday, June 13 the museum
hosted a group from the Howard
Activity Center in Sac City. There
were 15 people with helpers that
came. The Board served them
cookies and Kool Aid, and then gave
them a tour. All seemed to like it.
Thanks to all the helpers that helped
out that day.
The company from Mason City
will start on restoring the windows
the first part of July; this will be a
great improvement. Also the Drees
Co. will work on getting ventilation
in the mall area and also into the
train room, this will be a big project.
Also the same company will come
and evaluate the electrical system
and see what improvements that are
needed there. Always repairs in the
old building but have to do it if they
want to preserve all the wonderful

New Business, Weston Thompson
brought up that the drain pipe on the
west side has to be drained out into
the street as it is eroding the ground
by the side walk and the steps to the
north. Swanson’s Hardware has a
tool that we can rent to do this job.
There are a group of little children
from a day care that would like to
come tour the museum, they are
from 5 to 10 years of age, so they
will find a time for them to come.
The meeting was adjourned.
Some interesting events that have
happened when people sit. There
was a group of 5 from New York
that toured, they had come out to
see some of their relation and the
dad had gone to school here in the
old elementary school. They were
amazed at all the things they had
here and even found a picture of
one of their relation in the Rockwell
City room, bought several books and
things from the gift shop.
Also, one day two little boys
came in with some rail road spikes,
they had been out riding on the old
railroad and found them an asked us
if we could use them and if we had
a rail road room, they went through
the museum and was very nice, even
gave a donation. We need more little
children to go through.
JoAnn Maguire has been a very
good worker in the library, sorting
out books and making more room.
She wants to remind everyone
that there are a lot of OLD books
still for sale. Most all duplicates
needing a new home. As an example
Zane Greg, Tarkington, Almanacs,
National Geographics and other
authors.
So stop in and something might be
of interest to you.

Depot News
The Depot people have a lot of
events going on this summer and we
added a new one.
We found the old freight building
and want to bring it back where it
belongs. The building is in good
shape but it will cost a little (lot)
more than we thought. In other
words, we need money to get it back
to its original location and we can
get it looking as nice as the Depot.
Our soup suppers went to fix and
paint the train which is coming along
great.
