Like a leitmotif, both stylistic elements and the spirit of the great master of German Romanticism link the works of this compilation, whose dates of publication mark a period of 70 years, from 1879 to 1949, and whose composers fell prey to censorship and suppression by the Nazi regime due to their Jewish origins. Mozart up to jazz. The Clarinet Concerto in A, K. 622 is presented for the first time in an arrangement for clarinet and string quartet. Besides this classic of the clarinet repertoire, you can also hear the Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, and a late work by Francis Poulenc. In classical jazz trio instrumentation, i.e. together with piano and double bass, the long-standing Vienna Symphony Orchestra member impressively shows—with Mike Garson’s Jazz Variations on a Theme of Paganini—that this genre is often closer to classical music than imagined, and that he feels equally at home in both.
