SCARLATTI: Venere, Amore e Ragione • Sinfonia from Concerto Grosso No. 10 Alessandro Scarlatti was undoubtedly the greatest composer of vocal music in Italy in the 17 th and 18 th centuries. However, despite his grandeur being recognized by historians, it’s only recently that his music can be heard and appreciated in concerts. The “serenata” could be considered the form that lies between opera and cantata, a kind of mini-opera with the usual alternation between arias and recitatives but without the effects of staging. A characteristic of the beautiful and rare serenata recorded here is the presence of a general dancing nature of many of the arias along with real instrumental dances that, towards the end, intertwine with the arias. Málaga Chorus Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra Aldo Ceccato: conductor DE SABATA: Il Mercante di Venezia [The Merchant of Venice] (complete incidental music to Shakespeare’s play) The complete incidental music for William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, recorded for the first time! Aldo Ceccato conducts the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga in a brilliant score by legendary Italian conductor Victor De Sabata. Ceccato is a conductor of international fame. He studied music at the “G. Verdi” Conservatoire in Milan, his birthplace, and later attended specialization courses held by Sergiu Celibidache. He has conducted many great symphonic and operatic masterpieces in the most important Theatres—from Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, Naples’ San Carlo Theatre, and Florence’s Maggio Musicale Fiorentino to London’s Covent Garden, the Paris Opera, the Vienna Staatsoper, and the Hamburg Staastoper. He has been invited as guest conductor at the principal international music festivals in Glyndebourne, Edinburgh, Berlin, and Prague.
