Istochnikov. In 1998, fontcuberta purports that the Sputnik foundation sponsored
an extensive, researched installation which examined the artifacts, details
and life of the Soviet cosmonaut, Istochnikov who had apparently disappeared
during the fght of Soyuz 2 in 1968. the reality, however, was that fontcuberta
had created an entirely fctitious narrative that refected his actual research of
the Soviet culture and its space program. fontcuberta’s portraits of Istochnikov
