and built during <strong>the</strong> early years of space exploration.<br />

In exploring <strong>the</strong> documentation of people and <strong>the</strong>ir industrial achievements,<br />

and focusing on <strong>the</strong> signifcant body of work made at <strong>the</strong> former NaSa<br />

Lewis research Center, I cannot ignore <strong>the</strong> work of <strong>the</strong> New York City photographer<br />

eugene de Salignac. De Salignac was a New York City civil servant<br />

and <strong>the</strong> sole photographer of New York City’s Department of bridges/plant<br />

and Structures from 1906 through 1934. During that period, he made over<br />

20,000 glass plate negatives that documented <strong>the</strong> evolving infrastructure of
