SOLO/SMALL ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL: <strong>The</strong> director presented the registration report for<br />

the <strong>2012</strong> festival series. MMS (Philgreen/Elliott) to add under the accompanist regulations<br />

“Instrumental musical selections written with an accompaniment must be performed<br />

in that manner. See “comments only” section (included page and item).” and add under<br />

the comments only section, item b “in the event of an extreme emergency contact the<br />

IHSMA offi ce.” PASSED<br />

LARGE GROUP FESTIVAL: A proposal to add Concert Marches to the Required Literature<br />

List was reviewed. <strong>The</strong> proposal will be forwarded to the Concert Band Affairs committee<br />

and Literature Review Committee for input.<br />

MARCHING BAND FESTIVAL: Director Greiner presented a proposal to reduce the number<br />

of marching band sites to 6. Survey results of the membership regarding this change<br />

were reviewed. It was determined that IHSMA would stay with 8 sites, emphasizing that<br />

8 sites would provide less travel expense for member schools.<br />

DISTRICT ADVISORY GROUP CONCERNS: Jackie Burk expressed concern over Show<br />

Choir Clinicians having differing styles of working with ensembles. Some used video recordings<br />

and others did not. Concern was voiced that clinicians were not of equal caliber<br />

at a particular site. She also requested that Piano registrations not be part of the instrumental<br />

registration but have its own input screen and invoicing process.<br />

ASSOCIATION CONCERNS: Director Greiner made the committee aware that Duane<br />

Philgreen’s fi rst term is expiring on the Executive Committee and is eligible for re-election.<br />

Kirk Ahrends notifi ed the committee that he was resigning his position as Superintendent<br />

at Westwood and that if he did not fi nd a suitable job his position would be open as well.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>No</strong>rthern District Advisory Group positions terms have also expired and as such<br />

we will need to elect the following representatives: NW – Administrative; NC – Instrumental;<br />

NE – Vocal. President Fritz turned the meeting over to Vice-President Stogdill.<br />

MMS (Fritz/Ahrends) to submit Rosanne Malek for the NFHS Outstanding <strong>Music</strong> Educator<br />

Award. PASSED Vice President Stogdill returned the meeting to President Fritz. <strong>The</strong><br />

<strong>2012</strong>-2013 registration, penalty, and festival dates were presented and reviewed. <strong>The</strong><br />

director informed the committee that he had met with Executive Director of the IHSAA<br />

and the agreement between the IHSAA and the IHSMA was satisfactory to both parties.<br />

MMS (Ahrends/Stogdill) to approve the Investment Policy as presented. PASSED MMS<br />

(Philgreen/Elliott) to approve the Concessions Policy as presented. PASSED <strong>The</strong> director<br />

thanked Kurt Schwark, Jackie Burk, and Jennifer Sornson for their years of service and<br />

dismissed the DAG members. MMS (Teigland/Stogdill) to move into closed session at<br />

11:18 am to conduct the annual review of the performance of the Executive Director. This<br />

action called for a roll call vote: Stogdill – Aye; Teigland – Aye; Ahrends – Aye; Elliott –<br />

Aye; Fritz – Aye; Philgreen – Aye. MMS (Philgreen/Ahrends) to move into Open Session<br />

at 11:39 am. This motion required a roll call vote: Ahrends – Aye; Elliott – Aye; Fritz – Aye;<br />

Philgreen – Aye; Teigland – Aye; Stogdill – Aye. MMS (Ellliott/Teigland) to extend a 2-year<br />

contract to the Executive Director, increasing the salary package slightly more than 3.5%<br />
