Director Greiner presented a report on behalf of Chris Crandell regarding the 2011 All-
State Band. Mr. Crandell cited the outstanding work of Dr. Scott Jones and the All-State
Band. He expressed his appreciation for the efforts of his assistants, Myron Peterson, Urbandale;
Thad Driskell, Cedar Rapids; and his percussion assistant, Chris Ewan, Ames.
Mr. Crandell also cited the work of Brooke Croshier-Sidebotham and the staff of the Hilton
Coliseum. Mr. Crandell thanked Mike Golemo and the ISU Faculty for their efforts,
continued cooperation, and support. He also thanked Lauren Calkin and the Percussion
Source for their continued support of the festival by providing percussion instruments for
the band. He also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of Mary Citta and Ann Gribbins
in coordinating rehearsal schedules and students.
The All-State Band Chairs surveyed the All-State Band and found that:
79% of the students accepted study privately
60.4% of the students were there for the 1st time.
27.3% of the students were there for the 2nd time.
11.2% of the students were there for the 3rd time.
1.2% of the students were there for the 4th time.
16 students had been members of both the All-State Band and Orchestra
1 student had been a member of both the All-State Band and Chorus
87% of the 2011 Band was made up of students from Class 3A/4A with the majority
of that number coming from class 3A not 4A.
Mr. Crandell also provided a statistical breakdown by instrument of those audition vs.
those accepted.

Mr. Crandell expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Percussion Source/West
Music in Coralville, for again providing most of the major percussion instruments and
