MINUTES OF THE JOINT MEETING OF THE IMEA EXECUTIVE BOARD,<br />

IHSMA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE, AND ALL-STATE CHAIRS<br />

April 25, <strong>2012</strong><br />

<strong>The</strong> Executive Committee of the <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Music</strong> Association and the Executive<br />

Board of the <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>Music</strong> Educators Association met in joint session on Wednesday, April<br />

25, <strong>2012</strong>, in Boone, <strong>Iowa</strong>. Representing the IMEA were Martha Kroese, Cedar <strong>Fall</strong>s;<br />

Kendra Leisinger, Ankeny; David Law, Marion and Scott Rieker, Des Moines. Absent was<br />

Shirley Luebke, Sioux City. Representing the IHSMA were Susan Stogdill, Malvern; Kathy<br />

Elliott, Panora; Jim Fritz, Decorah; Duane Philgreen, Manchester; and Mike Teigland, Indianola.<br />

Absent was Kirk Ahrends, Sloan. Also in attendance was Ann Gribbins, All-State<br />

Orchestra Chair; Jackie Burk All-State Chorus Chair and Alan Greiner, Executive Director<br />

of the IHSMA. Absent was Chris Crandell, All-State Band Chair. IMEA President Martha<br />

Kroese chaired the meeting. Alan Greiner served as recording secretary.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Chair called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.<br />

Ann Osborne Gribbins presented a report of the 2011 All-State Orchestra citing the outstanding<br />

work of Dr. William LaRue Jones and the All-State Orchestra. Mrs. Gribbins<br />

expressed her appreciation to Ted Hallberg and Katherine Bendon for their work as her<br />

assistants. She also thanked Steve McCombs, Pella Community <strong>School</strong>s for his work as<br />

Percussion Assistant.<br />

Mrs. Gribbins announced there would be no procedural changes for the <strong>2012</strong> festival.<br />

Mrs. Gribbons announced that the <strong>2012</strong> conductor of the All-State Orchestra will be Maestro<br />

Joseph Giunta from the Des Moines Symphony. This will be Maestro Giunta’s 5th<br />

appearance as a conductor of this Orchestra.<br />

Jackie Burk presented a report of the <strong>2012</strong> All-State Chorus. She announced that: 1)<br />

chorus and piano audition cuts would be posted on the IHSMA website at 5 AM; 2) the<br />

requirement that only female voices were allowed on Soprano/Alto parts and only male<br />

voices were required on Tenor/Bass parts was deleted and that the following statement<br />

was added to the regulation “It is expected that students audition on a voice part that is<br />

appropriate for their vocal range. Vocal health of the student should be a primary concern.”<br />

She announced that Dr. Jerry Blackstone of the University of Michigan would be serving<br />

as the conductor of the <strong>2012</strong> festival. She announced that the music release date would<br />

be July 25, <strong>2012</strong>.<br />
