This paper gives a short introduction into legislation, licensing policy,<br />

data requirements and data management as it is introduced on the Norwegian<br />

continental shelf (NCS). The topics addressed are all related to petroleum<br />

activities. Figure 1 shows Norway and its offshore areas including the island<br />

of Jan Mayen and the Svalbard archipelago.<br />
