Table 5 (with reference to Figure 22), shows the current state of offshore hydrocarbons
production.
This is currently dominated by the Persian Gulf and the North Sea. Of
the twenty five largest production fields, eight are in the Persian Gulf and
eight others are in the North Sea. The remaining nine smaller ones are located
in the Gulf of Mexico, East Asia, South Asia, South America, West Africa and
North Africa. The IEA identify fifteen fields that produced in excess of 200
kb/d (thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day) in 1995. Another thirty fields
are estimated to have had production levels of more than 100 kb/d.
