Table 5 (with reference to Figure 22), shows the current state of offshore hydrocarbons<br />

production.<br />

This is currently dominated by the Persian Gulf and the North Sea. Of<br />

the twenty five largest production fields, eight are in the Persian Gulf and<br />

eight others are in the North Sea. The remaining nine smaller ones are located<br />

in the Gulf of Mexico, East Asia, South Asia, South America, West Africa and<br />

North Africa. The IEA identify fifteen fields that produced in excess of 200<br />

kb/d (thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day) in 1995. Another thirty fields<br />

are estimated to have had production levels of more than 100 kb/d.<br />
