By the beginning of 2000, a total of 20 deepwater offshore<br />

discoveries had been made in Brazil. Five of them hold recoverable<br />

hydrocarbon reserves of between 100 to 540 Mmtoe each, to a total of 1100<br />

Mmtoe (Roncador, Albacora, Marlin, Barracuda, and Caratinga).<br />

According to the latest estimates, Roncador and Marlin are the world’s<br />

largest deepwater offshore fields (Table 4, Figure 9) 10 .<br />
