Figure 2.4.90: Setup at the mid focal plane of the Pre-<strong>Separator</strong> (PF2). A complete degrader system is<br />

depicted, the vacuum chamber equipped with valve and pumps. In front of the degrader system a pair of slits<br />

in x- and y-direction is mounted. Two universal detector systems have been placed at suitable distance in<br />

the vacuum chamber to measure the position and angles of the ions at the different intensities. All movable<br />

components can be remotely operated.<br />

Since PF2 can have a significant radiation field any maintenance will be done with a robot system.<br />

First experience with such robots is presently gained at the FRS, where one device has been installed<br />

at the first focal plane. A photograph of the robot at the first focal plane of the FRS is shown<br />

in Figure 2.4.93.<br />
