Article 11<br />

The Ministers invite o<strong>the</strong>r competent authorities and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r Mediterranean states to act in accordance with<br />

<strong>the</strong> present declaration, notably in <strong>the</strong> application <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> plan <strong>of</strong> action <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> conservation <strong>of</strong> cetaceans in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Mediterranean.<br />

Article 12<br />

The present declaration is brought to <strong>the</strong> attention <strong>of</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>r states, concerned international organisations<br />

and commissions, notably through <strong>the</strong> Mediterranean<br />

Action Plan, <strong>the</strong> <strong>International</strong> Maritime Organisation<br />

and <strong>the</strong> <strong>International</strong> Commission <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scientific<br />

Exploration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mediterranean.<br />

Code <strong>of</strong> Conduct in <strong>the</strong> Presence <strong>of</strong><br />

Dolphins and Whales<br />

Do not interfere with <strong>the</strong> normal movement patterns<br />

<strong>of</strong> cetaceans, or affect <strong>the</strong>ir behaviour. Do nothing<br />

that could provoke <strong>the</strong>ir reaction, and avoid any<br />

physical contact.<br />

Do not chase <strong>the</strong> cetaceans, nor drive <strong>the</strong> boat directly<br />

towards <strong>the</strong>m.<br />

Keep to <strong>the</strong> side <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cetacean(s), keeping <strong>the</strong> boat<br />

parallel to <strong>the</strong>ir route, do not surround <strong>the</strong>m and do<br />

not intersect <strong>the</strong>ir route.<br />

Avoid sudden changes <strong>of</strong> direction or speed.<br />

Do not approach cetaceans with calves.<br />

Ensure that not more than one boat is within 100m<br />

from <strong>the</strong> cetacean(s), or three boats in a radius <strong>of</strong><br />

200m.<br />

Avoid diving or swimming with <strong>the</strong> cetaceans.<br />
