Changing Lives ... One Caddie at a Time
Letters of Appreciation
‘Forever in your debt’
The Chick Evans Scholarship has provided
me with an opportunity to attend the
University of Illinois, a dream I may not
have been able to achieve without your tremendous
support.
The Evans Scholarship has changed my life in
the best of all possible ways.
I remember going in for my interview and realizing
the most important moment of my life was
about to occur after years of dedication and hard
work. I was striving toward the top of a mountain.
At that point, I realized I wasn’t reaching
the summit, but merely the next pass.
With your support, I know my dreams and
goals are attainable and that I will indeed reach
the summit.
I will forever be in your debt.
‘One person’s legacy’
Jamie graduated from Miami University this
spring. We can’t begin to thank you for what
this scholarship has meant to our family. Jamie
is the oldest of four sons. I chose to be a
stay-at-home mom for many years. There was
very little money available for college savings.
Jamie has been able to graduate debt-free. He
is looking forward to a career
in either education or
ministry, and it is a blessing
that he does not have
college loans to pay back.
In addition, he had a tremendous
college experience
while living in the
Evans Scholars’ house.
We are committed to
spreading the word about
the Evans Program so
other young men and
women can take advan-
Jamie Borchik
tage of this incredible opportunity. The Scholarship
is a wonderful example of one person’s
legacy: a modest amount of golf earnings that
grew to scholarships for so many young men and
women. We are very grateful.
“Looking back over the years, the biggest
break of my life has been the Evans Scholarship.
From that tremendous gift, all the
rest was made possible.”
‘I am eternally grateful’
The letter I received asking me to come
out from Seattle, Washington, sent
by representatives of the North Shore
Country Club (in Mequon, Wis.), was like a
clarion call echoing from the hallways of my
past.
The last two letters I received from North
Shore had been in 1967 from the golf pro,
writing a recommendation letter to the selection
committee, and in 1968, from the president
congratulating me on being awarded the Evans
Scholarship to the University of Wisconsin.
After college, I went to medical school at
the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of
Medicine and then to my internship, residency
and fellowship at the University of Washington
in Seattle. I have spent the past 25 years as an
interventional cardiologist in private practice
in Everett, Washington. I have three children,
ages 6, 6 (twins) and 9, whom I love dearly and
unconditionally.
Looking back over the years, the biggest break
of my life has been the Evans Scholarship. You
see, from that tremendous gift, all the rest was
made possible. Without that gift, none of the
rest would have followed.
As the oldest of eight children, our family
was financially challenged and could not afford
college. The scholarship also provided a support
network whose help, camaraderie, and fellowship
made all the difference.
I’ve been given these gifts – my hands, my
mind and my health – and through the direction
of a Higher Power, I’ve been able, in my job as
a cardiologist, to be of service to my fellow man.
The Evans Scholarship made that possible, and
for this, I am eternally grateful.
